Manchester United vs Manchester City Preview

Recent results

Carrick has a big job on his hands. United have won just one of the last six across all competitions, suffering a 2-1 loss to Brighton in the FA Cup Third Round last weekend following three consecutive Premier League draws vs Wolves, Leeds and Burnley.

City’s 2-0 win at Newcastle in Tuesday’s EFL Cup semi-final first leg came after a 10-1 thrashing of Exeter in the FA Cup, though their top-flight form has been patchy of late. The Citizens drew each of the last three in the league vs Sunderland, Chelsea and Brighton, though are unbeaten away from home since late November.

Head-to-head record

City have won three of the previous six Manchester derbies in the Premier League, claiming a 3-0 victory at the Etihad earlier in the campaign.

Last season’s contest at Old Trafford finished 0-0, with the Citizens winning 3-0 at the Theatre of Dreams in October 2023.

Team news

Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo should be available for United after returning from AFCON, though Noussair Mazraoui and Morocco have reached Sunday’s final, so the full-back is unavailable. Matthijs de Ligt is the only real fitness concern for Carrick.

City are without a host of key defenders due to injury in Josko Gvardiol, Ruben Dias and John Stones. Savinho and Oscar Bobb are also out, while it is probably too quick of a turnaround for Omar Marmoush following Egypt’s AFCON elimination on Wednesday evening. But the signing of Antoine Semenyo certainly softens that blow.

Manchester United vs Manchester City Betting Tips

Benjamin Sesko to have over 1.5 shots on target @ 2.50

Sesko looks to be finding his feet in a United jersey. The Slovenian striker scored both goals in the 2-2 draw at Burnley, tallying seven shots on target at Turf Moor. Sesko also recorded four SOT when the Red Devils drew 1-1 with Wolves, and as City are struggling with defensive injuries, this looks a fantastic price.

Anytime goalscorer – Antoine Semenyo @ 3.83

City’s new forward netted in his first two matches against Exeter and Newcastle, while his record against United for Bournemouth reads three goals in four matches. Semenyo scored for the Cherries at Old Trafford in last month’s 4-4 draw, and after taking all those numbers into account, we are a tad surprised to see how high the odds are here.

Antoine Semenyo to commit over 1.5 fouls @ 2.00

As well as scoring goals, Semenyo is prone to committing the odd foul. In fact, the Ghanaian flyer has committed the joint-second most fouls in the Premier League this season (37), behind only Wolves’ Joao Gomes. Semenyo committed over 1.5 fouls in five of his previous seven top-flight appearances, so you won’t find many better selections at evens for this match.
