After back-to-back losses against Sporting Lisbon (2-1) and Atalanta (0-1), Marseille have won each of the last two in the Champions League vs Newcastle (2-1) and Union Saint-Gilloise (2-3), now sitting 16th in the table and just three points off the play-off places.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side suffered a damaging defeat on penalties to Paris Saint-Germain in the Trophee des Champions on January 8, but bounced back impressively with huge away victories over Bayeux (0-9) in the cup and Angers (2-5) in Ligue 1.
Liverpool have won three of the last four in the Champions League, a run which includes fantastic away triumphs over Eintracht Frankfurt (1-5) and – most recently – Inter Milan (0-1). The Reds sit ninth in the table, outside the coveted Top 8 on goal difference only.
Domestically, Arne Slot’s side are struggling a tad, drawing each of the last four in the Premier League following last Saturday’s shock 1-1 draw with relegation candidates Burnley at Anfield.

This is the first time Marseille and Liverpool have met in the Champions League since 2008-09, with the Reds winning both of those group fixtures (1-0 and 1-2).
The two sides also collided in the previous season’s group stage, during which Liverpool recorded a famous 4-0 victory in Marseille. Although, the French side did triumph 1-0 at Anfield!
Team news
Derek Cornelius and Ruben Blanco are the only confirmed injury blows for Marseille, although Bilal Nadir is a doubt after hobbling off vs Angers.
Alexander Isak, Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni are long-term absentees for Liverpool, but apart from that, Slot’s squad looks in decent shape.
Mohamed Salah (Egypt) and Nayef Aguerd (Morocco) are both likely to miss out as the pair return from AFCON.

Szoboszlai has been Liverpool’s standout performer in Europe, recording three goals and three assists. The Hungarian playmaker scored the winner from the penalty spot against Inter, and De Zerbi’s all-action playing style should provide him with plenty of space to operate in. Marseille have kept just one clean sheet in the Champions League this season (the 4-0 win over Ajax), so you have to fancy the visitors to grab at least one goal. And Szoboszlai is a prime candidate to be heavily involved.

Greenwood is currently fourth in the Champions League standings for shots on target with 11, close to two per game. In Ligue 1, no one has recorded more SOT than the Marseille star’s total of 23, which makes the value of this selection really stand out.
