Arsenal’s 1-0 victory over Chelsea on Tuesday evening secured a 4-2 aggregate win and a place in the EFL Cup final for the first time since 2018.
The Gunners will take on Manchester City at Wembley Stadium on March 22.
Kai Havertz’s late goal at the Emirates vs Chelsea sparked scenes of wild celebration, and has prompted questions about whether the Gunners can win all four major trophies on offer this season.
Mikel Arteta’s men are six points clear at the top of the Premier League and reached the Champions League knockout rounds with a perfect record of eight wins from eight in the League Phase.
And up next in the FA Cup is a home match against League One side Wigan Athletic, so it is safe to say that things are looking pretty rosy for the Gunners.
Ahead of Sunderland’s visit to the Emirates tomorrow afternoon, we have taken a little look at the chances of Arsenal adding four trophies to their collection in a matter of months.
And it is safe to say our online betting odds suggest (perhaps rightly) that the Gunners will NOT become the first English team to win the heralded Quadruple.
But stranger things have happened in football…
Arsenal trophy odds on NetBet Sport
*All odds are subject to change
Arsenal to win the Premier League – 1.18
Arsenal to win the Champions League – 4.50
Arsenal to win the FA Cup – 7.00
Arsenal to win the EFL Cup – 1.80
Combined odds (with a 3% boost courtesy of NetBet’s Acca Boost feature) – 66.91
The Gunners are the overwhelming favourites to win the Premier League, and sit ahead of Bayern Munich (5.50) in our Champions League outright market.
Interestingly, Arsenal are only third favourites to win the FA Cup – a trophy the North Londoners have lifted more than any other team in history – behind Manchester City and Liverpool.
Arteta’s side are tipped to win a first EFL Cup since 1993, with City currently priced at 2.00.
Is a Quadruple really on the cards?
In truth, talk of a quadruple seems a bit far-fetched, even if Arsenal do have arguably the strongest and deepest squad in Europe.
The defence is by far the best in the business right now, while Martin Zubimendi and Declan Rice are a midfield pairing any manager would love to have.
However, the Arsenal attack is nowhere close to the likes of Bayern, PSG, Barcelona or even City. And ultimately, goals win you games and trophies, the latter of which the Gunners are yet to do in this ‘Golden Era’.
Bukayo Saka is world-class on his day, but Viktor Gyokeres, Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Martinelli and Noni Madueke flatter to deceive at the best of times, while Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus are returning from serious injuries.
So it is perhaps no wonder the reliance on set-pieces has been so great. And though it is an efficient method of breaking deadlocks, it is perhaps not one you associate with record-breaking Quadruple winners.
Do you still believe?
And let’s just look at the other facts.
Arsenal have not won the Premier League since 2003-04, which was over 20 years ago. And after three near misses in the last three years, with a formidable opponent in City waiting to pounce, a top-flight title is still far from guaranteed this season.
Then there is the undeniable fact of Arsenal’s failure to win the Champions League, a tournament which throws up more obstacles than any other.
And managing high-pressure games in both competitions, as well as keeping a keen eye on player fitness, is the toughest of challenges.
Lest we forget, Arsenal’s great run in the Champions League last season coincided with a real dip in Premier League form.
Furthermore, both Champions League and FA Cup success can be heavily dependent on the draw.
Theoretically, Arsenal could meet PSG in the quarter-finals of the UCL (if they qualify) and have to travel to Liverpool in the FA Cup. Yes, both are winnable, but assigning the necessary resources to each task while maintaining a strong lead in the Premier League is a tall order for any squad, regardless of depth.
Why do you think Sir Alex Ferguson and Pep Guardiola, perhaps the two greatest managers of all time, could ‘only’ win Trebles? Even they ran out of bandwith in pursuit of of all four pieces of silverware.
So right now, there are just far too many variables with regard to dreams of a Quadruple. Only a fool would rule out multiple trophy wins for the Gunners, but let’s expunge the ‘Q’ word from our vocabularies for a while.
If the EFL Cup falls into Arsenal’s hands on March 22, with continued progress in the other three competitions, then it can perhaps be discusssed further.
