Manchester City vs Newcastle – Premier League 2025/26 Match Preview & Betting Tips

Manchester City are looking to pile more pressure on the shoulders of Arsenal in the title race.

After the Gunners’ latest slip up at Wolves, Pep Guardiola’s serial winners can cut the gap at the top to just two points with a victory over Newcastle at the Etihad.

But the Magpies arrive in Manchester on the back of a huge 6-1 win at Qarabag, so City will know this is not a game to be taken lightly in any sense.

Saturday’s late kick-off promises drama from the get-go, and in our full preview below, we have picked out some betting tips based on the latest Premier League odds.

Manchester City vs Newcastle Preview

Recent results

City beat Salford 2-0 in the FA Cup fourth round, and have won each of the last two in the Premier League vs Liverpool (1-2) and Fulham (3-0) after the infamous 2-2 draw at Tottenham at the start of the month.

As previously mentioned, Newcastle won 6-1 at Qarabag in the first leg of their Champions League play-off tie, with Anthony Gordon scoring four goals. The impressive result follows the confidence-boosting 3-1 victory at Aston Villa in the FA Cup, with the Magpies winning 2-1 at Spurs in their last top-flight fixture. It is a three-match run which may play on Guardiola’s mind a tad.

Head-to-head record

This will be the fourth time City and Newcastle have met this season. The Magpies won the reverse Premier League fixture 2-1, but came up short in the EFL Cup semi-finals, losing 2-0 at home and then 3-1 at the Etihad.

Overall, the Citizens have won 13 of the last 16 meetings with Newcastle, claiming a 4-0 league victory at the Etihad last term thanks to an Omar Marmoush hat-trick.

City and Newcastle will also meet in the FA Cup fifth round at the start of next month…

Team news

Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol are both unavailable for City, while Erling Haaland, Max Alleyne, Jeremy Doku and Savinho are all fitness doubts.

Bruno Guimaraes, Fabian Schar, Tino Livramento and Emil Krafth are long-term absentees for Newcastle, while Yoane Wissa, Sven Botman and Lewis Miley remain doubts. Joelinton’s return is a huge plus for Eddie Howe, though.

Manchester City vs Newcastle Odds

Manchester City vs Newcastle Betting Tips

Anytime goalscorer – Antoine Semenyo @ 2.09

Semenyo has taken to life at Man City like a duck to water. The Ghanaian has three goals in his last four Premier League appearances, and was on target in the 3-0 win over Fulham. Against a Newcastle defence which has failed to keep a clean sheet in the last eight matches, Semenyo can make a mockery of his odds here.

Anthony Gordon to have over 1.5 shots on target @ 6.50

Okay, we cannot work out why Gordon’s odds here are so high. Fresh from scoring four goals in Azerbaijan, the Englishman’s pace could potentially wreak havoc on City’s high defensive line. Gordon also scored and registered two SOT in Newcastle’s recent visit to Liverpool, albeit in a 4-1 defeat.

Total goals – Over 3.5 @ 2.00

City scored 10 goals in the last four matches, while Newcastle tallied 13 in their previous four. So this could be a match in which the attacks are firmly on top, with neither side looking solid at the back for much of the season.
