Recent results
India secured a spot in the semi-finals with a vital five-wicket triumph over West Indies in their final Super 8 game, with Sanju Samson playing a match-winning knock of 97* (50) in the chase.
It may prove to be a tournament-defining success for the Indians after the 76-run loss to South Africa, which was followed by a 72-run victory over Zimbabwe.
For England, the Super 8 stage was far less dramatic, with Brook’s side claiming three consecutive wins over Sri Lanka, Pakistan and New Zealand.
Brook’s stunning century secured the victory over Pakistan, while a late flurry from Rehan Ahmed and Will Jacks – who put on 44 runs from just 16 balls – snatched victory from the jaws of defeat vs the Kiwis.
Head-to-head record
This is the third consecutive T20 World Cup in which India and England have met in the semi-finals, with the victor going on to lift the trophy on each occasion.
In the 2022 edition, the Three Lions won by 10 wickets in Adelaide thanks to a famous partnership between Jos Buttler and Alex Hales, while India got revenge in 2024 with a 68-run triumph in Guyana.
The two sides also played a T20I series in India just over a year ago, which the hosts won 4-1 – including a 150-run victory at the Wankhede. Abhishek Sharma top-scored in that match with a breathtaking 135 off just 54 balls.
England have lost nine of the previous 12 T20 matches vs India, so the recent history does not bode well for Brook’s boys. But in a semi-final cauldron, the data often does not matter one bit!

India vs England Betting Tips
Top batter – Abhishek Sharma @ 5.00
Abhishek failed to deliver in the win over West Indies, hitting just 10 off 11 balls. However, England are one of his favourite opponents, so backing the opener here could be a wise move to make. In five T20I matches against the Three Lions, Abhishek scored 279 runs at an average of 55.80, and with a ridiculous strike rate of 219.68. With small boundaries in Mumbai, England’s bowling attack may feel the full force of a T20 legend in the making.
Top bowler – Jasprit Bumrah @ 4.50
World-class seamer Bumrah knows the Wankhede better than most, as he has represented Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League since 2013. And in his five matches against England in T20Is, Bumrah has taken nine wickets at an average of just 9.11, and with a strike rate of 10.20 – which is pretty darn ridiculous!
Most sixes – India @ 1.63
Both of these teams are capable of smashing maximums for fun, but India probably have the slight edge in the six-hitting department. Abhishek, Samson, Ishan Kishan, Tilak Varma, Shivam Dube and Hardik Pandya can all clear the boundary rope with frightening ease, particularly at a ground like the Wankhede, where the pitch often favours the batters.
