Recent results

The last month or so has certainly not been a time to remember fondly for Chelsea. On top of a damaging 8-2 aggregate defeat vs Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League last 16, the Blues lost each of the last three in the Premier League vs Newcastle (0-1), Everton (3-0) and Manchester City (0-3). The 7-0 victory over Port Vale in the FA Cup quarter-finals offered little respite.

But things have not been great on United’s side either. Monday night’s 2-1 home defeat to Leeds means it is just one win in the last four for Carrick’s men, the last two away matches seeing them lose at Newcastle (2-1) and draw 2-2 with Bournemouth.

Head-to-head record

United won 2-1 at Old Trafford earlier in the season, a match ultimately decided by Robert Sanchez’s early red card.

But Chelsea won each of the last two at Stamford Bridge, and the Red Devils’ last victory at the stadium was way back in February 2020.

Team news

Levi Colwill, Jamie Gittens, Trevoh Chalobah and Filip Jorgensen are likely to be the injury absentees for Chelsea, while captain Reece James is a serious doubt. But Enzo Fernandez is set to return to the squad after a club-imposed suspension.

Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez are each suspended for United, which presents a major defensive headache for Carrick. Matthijs de Ligt and Patrick Dorgu remain on the treatment table, while key midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is a doubt after missing the Leeds game.

Chelsea vs Manchester United Betting Tips

Both teams to score – Yes @ 1.42

Chelsea have failed to score in three consecutive Premier League matches, but their attacking power cannot be questioned. And with Fernandez back in midfield, the Blues should join United on the scoresheet. This BTTS pick has landed in each of the Red Devils’ last five games, in case you needed any more convincing.

Total goals – Over 2.5 @ 1.48

Like the BTTS selection, this pick also landed in United’s previous five Premier League games, as well as in four of Chelsea’s last five in the top flight. With both teams plagued by defensive injuries or suspensions, there is serious potential for a high-scoring affair in West London.

Player to score or assist – Cole Palmer @ 1.85

And one player who could be involved in a goal is Palmer. Yes, 2025-26 has been a sedate season for the mercurial forward, but he is a big-game player – and games do not come much bigger than this. Palmer has four goals in six previous appearances vs United, and if Mainoo is unable to feature and knit together the United midfield, Chelsea’s main man should find plenty of space to wreak havoc.
