Arsenal vs Atletico Madrid Preview

Arsenal are bidding to reach a first Champions League final since 2006 when they host Atletico Madrid at the Emirates.

The two sides are locked at 1-1 following last week’s fierce battle at the Wanda Metropolitano, with Viktor Gyokeres and Julian Alvarez scoring penalties.

So it is all on the line in North London, with the winner getting to play either Paris Saint-Germain or Bayern Munich on May 30 in Budapest.

What a night we have in store at the Emirates, and below is our full sports betting preview, with the latest Champions League odds and tips – all of which can be used in conjunction with our Bet Builder feature.

Recent results

Arsenal followed up the credible 1-1 draw in Madrid with a huge 3-0 win over Fulham last Saturday, and the level of dominance displayed by the Guners even allowed Mikel Arteta to rotate and rest key players ahead of this second leg.

Diego Simeone altered his whole XI for Atletico’s trip to Valencia, though the team still managed to record a 2-0 victory at the Mestalla. After a tricky run of form, the La Liga outfit are now unbeaten in the last three across all competitions.

Head-to-head record

Arsenal’s only victory over Atletico in four attempts came at the Emirates earlier this season. Arteta’s men won 4-0 in the League Phase, with striker Gyokeres netting two of the goals.

Team news

Kai Havertz and Martin Odegaard are all set to be part of the Arsenal squad following minor injury setbacks, though Mikel Merino and Jurrien Timber continue to be absent.

Pablo Barrios and Nico Gonzalez are the only injury absentees for Atletico, with centre-back Jose Gimenez back in the travelling party after over a month out.

Arsenal vs Atletico Madrid Odds

*All odds are subject to change

Arsenal are clear favourites to win and reach the final, priced as low as 1.57. A victory for Atletico is at odds of 5.80, while the draw after 90 minutes – which would take us to extra-time and possibly penalties – is at 4.10.

Arsenal vs Atletico Madrid Betting Tips

Both teams to score – No @ 1.77

Arsenal have conceded just three goals at home in the Champions League all season, keeping four clean sheets in total – including in each of the last two vs Leverkusen and Sporting. So while Atletico possess some formidable attacking weapons, we fancy the Gunners to display some defensive strength in front of their fans.

Total goals – Under 2.5 @ 1.84

However, we do not believe it will be a goal-fest at the Emirates. Only two of Arsenal’s home games in the competition this season saw over 2.5 goals scored, with the 3-0 win vs Fulham on the weekend marking the first time that the Gunners netted over two goals in any match since February. A low-scoring thriller looks firmly on the cards.

Anytime goalscorer – Viktor Gyokeres @ 2.25

But while we are tipping two markets reliant on a low number of goals, we are still backing the in-form Gyokeres to be on the scoresheet. The Swede has three goals in his last two appearances, and lest we forget, struck a double the last time these sides clashed at the Emirates.
