France vs Morocco Preview
Recent results
France thrashed Sweden 3-0 in their Round of 32 tie, before grinding out a 1-0 win vs Paraguay courtesy of a second-half penalty from Kylian Mbappe.
After an epic penalty shootout victory over the Netherlands, Morocco beat co-hosts Canada 3-0 in the Round of 16, with Azzedine Ounhani scoring twice in Houston.
Both teams are undefeated at this edition of the World Cup.
Head-to-head record
In eight previous meetings, Morocco have won on just one occasion – and that was in a penalty shootout at the 1998 King Hassan II Tournament.
The two nations drew 2-2 in a November 2007 international friendly, before France’s aforementioned semi-final triumph at Qatar 2022.
Team news
Aurelien Tchouameni and Marcus Thuram are the major fitness doubts for France, while Didier Deschamps has a big decision to make with regard to deploying either Bradley Barcola or Desire Doue on the left wing.
Ismael Saibari is set to miss out for Morocco, which is the only blow for Mohamed Ouahbi – but it is a massive one. The new Bayern Munich forward is the Atlas Lions’ top scorer in the tournament with three goals. Soufiane Rahimi is the most likely replacement if required.

France vs Morocco Betting Tips
Anytime goalscorer – Kylian Mbappe @ 1.77
Mbappe and World Cup goals, one of football’s great love stories. France’s irrepressible captain has struck seven times at this tournament, and looks close to unstoppable in Les Bleus’ slick, interchanging front four. The Real Madrid ace has 15 goals in his last 12 appearances on this stage, a quite absurd record that we can only see being extended here.
Kylian Mbappe to have over 2.5 shots on target @ 2.55
Mbappe has registered over 2.5 shots on target in four of his five appearances at World Cup 2026, even achieving the feat against a stubborn Paraguay defence. Morocco should play a far more expansive game, which potentially paves the way for Mbappe to test Yassine Bounou’s reflexes on multiple occasions.
France to score over 1.5 goals @ 1.75
Paraguay’s questionable tactics and the extreme Philadelphia heat meant we did not see the real France in the Round of 16. The victory was all that mattered, but expect Deschamps’ troops to rise to the occasion here and put Morocco’s defence to the sword. Prior to the win over Paraguay, Les Bleus had scored over 1.5 goals in 16 out of 17 matches, a run stretching back to March 2025.
