Spain vs Belgium Preview

Recent results

Spain edged past Portugal in a dull Iberian derby, Mikel Merino’s late goal securing a priceless 1-0 Round-of-16 victory. This is the third consecutive knockout match against European opposition for La Roja following the 3-0 win over Austria in the Round of 32.

After a dramatic 3-2 extra-time success over Senegal, Belgium enjoyed a far more comfortable match against co-hosts USA in the Round of 32. The Red Devils won 4-1 in Seattle, with Charles De Ketelaere scoring a brace and Romelu Lukaku netting again off the bench.

Head-to-head record

Spain and Belgium met on the World Cup stage in 1986, the latter winning the quarter-final tie on penalties following a 1-1 draw.

La Roja then got revenge four years later at Italia ‘90 courtesy of a 2-1 group-stage victory.

Since the turn of the millennium, Spain have won all five editions of this fixture, including a 5-0 triumph in September 2009.

Team news

Spain boss Luis de la Fuente will be hoping to have both Nico Williams and Yeremy Pino available for this fixture, with Alex Baena struggling somewhat on the left-hand side of attack vs Portugal.

Amadou Onana sadly suffered a serious knee injury vs USA and is therefore unavailable for this fixture, with veteran midfielder Hans Vanaken set to start in his place.

Spain vs Belgium Odds

*All odds are subject to change

Spain are big favourites to win and reach the semi-finals for the first time since 2010, priced as low as 1.60. A victory for Belgium – who reached the final four at Russia 2018 – is at odds of 5.30, while the draw after 90 minutes is 3.78.

Spain vs Belgium Betting Tips

Both teams to score – Yes @ 1.77

Spain are yet to concede at World Cup 2026, a sublime record which only adds to the aura surrounding the reigning European champions. But Belgium’s attack has really clicked into gear in recent matches, scoring 12 times in the last three. As such, the BTTS market could be a real source of value as either a single bet or part of a combo.

Spain total goals – Over 1.5 @ 1.67

However, while we expect both teams to get on the scoresheet, all signs point towards a Spain win – which would require them to find the net on multiple occasions. De la Fuente’s side are on a 35-match unbeaten run (excluding penalty shootouts) and their ability to keep possession should eventually wear down a Belgian defence which has kept just one clean sheet at the tournament.

Lamine Yamal to have over 1.5 shots on target @ 1.88

Yamal has scored only one goal at World Cup 2026 (vs Saudi Arabia), but he has been a solid pick in the SOT target markets. The teenage sensation has tallied over 1.5 of them in three of his last four appearances, even registering two in the dull 1-0 win over Portugal.
