Football Match Preview

On contemporary paper, Tuesday night’s game looks a complete mismatch and most football fans expect Luis de la Fuente’s awesome La Roja side to stroll to victory in Split.

But international football can sometimes throw up a surprise or two, and there is still enough talent within the Croatia ranks to produce an upset here.

Croatia vs Spain Preview

Recent results

Croatia opened their Nations League campaign with a 2-1 victory in the Czech Republic, but things have taken a turn for the worse since. Slaven Bilic’s men lost 4-1 in Spain and then suffered a record 7-0 defeat to England in Rjeka.

After winning World Cup 2026, Spain reeled off three consecutive wins in the Nations League, extending their unbeaten run to a ridiculous 41 games. La Roja beat England 3-2 at Wembley on Matchday 1, before back-to-back home wins over Croatia and Czech Republic (3-1).

Head-to-head record

Spain won five of the last six matches against Croatia, with an overall record of eight victories from 12 meetings.

La Roja did lose 3-2 on their last visit to Croatia in the 2018-19 Nations League, though that result came soon after a 6-0 home victory for the Spaniards.

Team news

Bilic will surely look to freshen up Croatia’s XI following the heavy defeat to England. Mario Pasalic is likely to come in and replace veteran midfielder Luka Modric, while Ivan Perisic may be relieved of left-back duties here – particularly with Yamal in red-hot form. Manchester City’s Josko Gvardiol is an option to play in the position, with Josip Sutalo potentially replacing him in the middle of the defence.

Ferran Torres and Nico Williams are both slight injury doubts for Spain, but De la Fuente still has some stellar options to freshen up his side. Mikel Oyarzabal, Mikel Merino, Victor Munoz, Yeremy Pino, Marc Cucurella and Fermin Lopez were all subs against Czech Republic, which just further highlights the strength in the Spanish ranks.

Croatia vs Spain Betting Tips

Spain total goals – Over 2.5 @ 1.93

Spain scored over 2.5 goals in their previous three matches, and after watching Croatia try to defend during their mauling at the hands of England, it really is hard to see how La Roja do not extend that to four in four.

Anytime goalscorer – Lamine Yamal @ 2.03

Barcelona starlet Yamal has been on fire in this edition of the Nations League. After a slightly tepid World Cup 2026 campaign due to injury issues, the flying winger boasts four goals in three appearances at this tournament. The numbers are ridiculous and if Yamal gets the nod to start again here, we just cannot see how Croatia’s leaky back-line can stop him.

Player to score or assist – Fermin Lopez @ 1.80

We expect some rotation from De le Fuente given the congested nature of this international break, and Barcelona midfielder Lopez is a standout option to come into the XI. With four goals and two assists from six La Liga appearances in 2026-27, he certainly knows how to contribute in the final third.
