Barcelona vs Aston Villa – Champions League 2026/27 Match Preview & Betting Tips

Barcelona vs Aston Villa headlines Tuesday’s offering of Champions League football.

It sees Unai Emery return to Camp Nou, having previously been on the end of one of the competition’s greatest ever comebacks at this location.

‘La Remontada’ in 2016 saw Barcelona famously beat Emery’s Paris Saint-Germain side 6-1 in the stadium after losing the first leg of the tie 4-0, a night no football fan will ever forget.

Of course, there is far less jeopardy here, and Aston Villa arrive in Catalonia on maximum points in the 2026-27 League Phase – perhaps with a swagger in their step.

Producing a shock against free-scoring Barca would be quite the statement from the current Europa League holders, and our full sports betting preview is available below, with tips and the latest Champions League odds.

And our three picks can be used in conjunction with Bet Builder, which allows you to combine multiple match markets into a single wager.

Where can I watch Barcelona vs Aston Villa in the UK?

Barcelona vs Aston Villa Preview

Recent results

Barcelona lost 4-2 at Paris Saint-Germain last time out in this competition, a result which was followed by a surprise 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid at Camp Nou in the first El Clasico of the season. Hansi Flick’s men returned to winning ways on the weekend, though, the Blaugrana thrashing Deportivo Alaves 6-1 in front of their fans – with Raphinha bagging yet another La Liga brace.

Aston Villa are three from three in the Champions League having most recently beat Viking 3-1 at home. Emery’s men then defeated Manchester City 2-1 at Villa Park in the Premier League, before losing 3-0 at Bournemouth in the EFL Cup. The Villans could only muster a 1-1 draw with Fulham on the weekend, a disappointing result given their recent form.

Head-to-head record

This is Barcelona and Aston Villa’s first meeting in the Champions League.

The two sides clashed in the 1977-78 edition of the UEFA Cup, a 2-2 draw at Villa Park followed by a 2-1 Barca win at Camp Nou.

Then the teams met in the 1983 UEFA Super Cup, a two-legged tie which saw Barca claim a 1-0 home victory before suffering a 3-0 defeat at Villa.

Team news

Amadou Onana and Matteo Ruggeri remain long-term absentees for Aston Villa, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka rates as a strong injury doubt and is unlikely to feature here.

Dani Olmo is still on the sidelines for Barcelona, so expect in-form Fermin Lopez to retain a starting berth. At the back, Jules Kounde, Eric Garcia, Xavi Espart and Andreas Christensen are all ruled out – leaving Flick with some big defensive calls to make.

Barcelona vs Aston Villa Betting Tips

Anytime goalscorer – Lamine Yamal @ 1.75

Raphinha is perhaps the standout option from a Barcelona standpoint, but we are backing Yamal here. The teenager scored away at PSG last time out, and boasts 10 goals from 11 La Liga appearances after netting twice against Racing on the weekend. Typically ridiculous numbers from a player eager to respond to his third-place Ballon d’Or finish.

Anytime goalscorer – Nicolas Jackson @ 3.00

Barca concede goals as well as score them, with Flick’s side failing to keep a clean sheet in each of the last five matches. Step forward, Jackson. The Villa striker has eight goals in his last 10 appearances across all competitions, including seven in the previous seven matches. His pace and crafty runs could really trouble Barca’s high defensive line.

Total goals – Over 3.5 @ 1.49

Another Barca game, another pick focused on a high number of goals. This bet landed in four of the Spanish side’s previous five games, the only exception being the El Clasico defeat. And the selection was also a winner in all three of Villa’s Champions League games thus far, with wins recorded over Club Brugge (2-3), Fenerbahce (6-0) and Viking (3-1). Goals feel inevitable at Camp Nou, and that is certainly not the last time we will say that this season!
