England vs India Third Test Preview

The enthralling Test series between England and India is now locked at 1-1 after the visitors’ dominant win at Edgbaston.

England triumphed in the First Test at Headingley with a superb fourth-innings chase, but fell way short in Birmingham, with Shubman Gill and Akash Deep the stars of the show.

England vs India Third Test Preview

England only have a few days to regroup after a sensational performance by India in the Second Test.

Captain Gill scored 430 runs in two innings, the most ever by an Indian player in the history of Test match cricket.

And seam bowler Deep shone in Jasprit Bumrah’s absence, taking 10 priceless wickets as the visiting side won by a huge margin of 336 runs.

So the pressure is now on England, who look set to recall Jofra Archer at Lord’s after his prolonged absence from the Test arena.

Jamie Overton and Gus Atkinson are also in contention, while Jacob Bethell is another option to strengthen the batting and also provide another spin bowling option.

Harry Brook and Jamie Smith were the only two Englishmen to deliver with the willow in the Second Test, the duo putting on a 303-run partnership in the first innings to keep the hosts in the match.

Ollie Pope and Ben Stokes each fell victim to a golden duck during the Test match in Birmingham, while Joe Root and Zak Crawley failed to deliver anything of note.

England will need all their batters on top form at Lord’s, with Bumrah set to make his comeback alongside Deep and Mohammed Siraj.

On paper, that really is a formidable fast-bowling attack, one which should be able to take full advantage of the famous slope!

England vs India Third Test Odds

*All odds are subject to change

Despite such a poor showing at Edgbaston, England are still the favourites to win the Third Test at a price of 1.89. India are at odds of 2.32, while the draw – which is incredibly unlikely given the weather forecast – is 7.20.

England vs India Third Test Betting Tips

England 1st Innings Top Batter – Ben Duckett @ 4.50

After a superb performance in the First Test, Duckett returned scores of 0 and 25 at Edgbaston. As such, he will be itching to get back to his best in London, and the skilful opening batter has a superb record at Lord’s. Duckett averages 71.66 with a strike rate of 82.37 at the Home of Cricket, so we are tipping him to be England’s main man in their first innings.

India 1st Innings Top Bowler – Akash Deep @ 4.33

Deep was sensational on his return to the India XI at Edgbaston and his ability to get the new ball to seam off the pitch is tailor made for Lord’s. And with Bumrah back in the side, the England batsmen may take more risks against Deep in order to keep the run rate looking positive – which paves the way for more wickets!
