Bayern Munich vs Chelsea – Champions League 2025/26 Match Preview & Betting Tips

Bayern Munich vs Chelsea

Bayern Munich vs Chelsea is one the standout fixtures on Matchday 1 of the new Champions League season.

In 2012, these two sides played out the final of this competition, with the Blues famously winning on penalties in the Allianz Arena – which is Bayern’s home.

Can Enzo Maresca emulate that achievement by his countryman Roberto Di Matteo? It would be quite the statement from the FIFA Club World Cup champions!

Bayern Munich vs Chelsea Preview

Both Bayern and Chelsea are unbeaten in 2025-26 heading into this fixture.

The Blues drew 2-2 with Brentford on the weekend, with Fabio Carvalho scoring a dramatic late equaliser after Moises Caicedo had given his side the lead.

It was not ideal preparation for a visit to the Allianz, though the return of Cole Palmer – who scored the equaliser at the Gtech Stadium – was a huge boost for Maresca.

But the Chelsea boss will know his side must play to a far higher level to stand any chance of leaving Bavaria with a positive result.

Bayern began their Bundesliga season with a 6-0 home win over RB Leipzig, before beating Augsburg 3-2 and then claiming a 5-0 victory over Hamburg last Saturday.

Fourteen goals in three matches is a daunting record if you are affiliated with Chelsea, with Harry Kane contributing to eight of them (five goals and three assists).

Furthermore, summer signing Luis Diaz – previously at Liverpool – has started the season fantastically with three goals and two assists, while Michael Olise has chipped in with four top-flight goal contributions of his own.

Even without the injured Jamal Musiala, Bayern’s attack is one to be feared, and midfield lynchpin Caicedo needs to be at the top of his game to protect his centre-backs.

If the Ecuadorian struggles in the middle of the park, which is rare, things could get ugly for the Blues.

The last time these two sides met in the Champions League was back in 2020, when Bayern thrashed Chelsea 7-1 on aggregate in the Round of 16, with the leg at the Allianz seeing the German champions claim a 4-1 victory.

Bayern Munich vs Chelsea Betting Tips

Anytime goalscorer – Harry Kane @ 1.91

Stopping Kane has proven to be an almost impossible feat for even the best defences, and Chelsea’s is not in that bracket right now. Furthermore, Kane has a fairly good record against Chelsea from his Tottenham days, with six goals in 16 previous Premier League clashes.

Player to score or assist – Michael Olise @ 1.83

Another ex-Premier League forward could wreak havoc against Chelsea. Olise is a world-class operator these days, scoring five goals and registering two assists in Champions League action last term. Olise assisting a Kane goal in the Allianz? It is certainly on the cards.

Bayern Munich to win and both teams to score @ 2.78

But while we expect Bayern to win with a degree of comfort, Chelsea’s attacking power leads us to believe they will get at least one goal. Talisman Palmer is back in the fold, while Joao Pedro already looks an exceptional piece of business with two goals and three assists in the Premier League. Chelsea have scored at least once in 13 of their last 14 competitive matches.
