Tottenham vs Aston Villa Preview

Both teams secured wins in their final Premier League match before the international break.

Spurs beat Leeds 2-1 away from home, while Villa defeated Burnley 2-1 thanks to a brace from Donyell Malen.

After a tricky start to the campaign, Villa have now won four consecutive matches across all competitions, with key wins collected over Bologna (1-0), Fulham (3-1) and Feyenoord (0-2).

The aforementioned triumph for third-placed Spurs at Elland Road was sorely needed after back-to-back draws with Brighton (2-2) and – more disappointingly – Wolves (1-1).

That result against Wolves means Thomas Frank’s men have tasted victory just once at home in the Premier League this season, with the 3-0 success over Burnley followed by a 1-0 loss to Bournemouth.

And Villa are yet to win away from home in the top flight, losing to Brentford (1-0) and drawing with both Everton (0-0) and Sunderland (1-1), so it could be an unpredictable battle at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs are still without long-term absentees in James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke, but summer arrival Randal Kolo Muani could feature later today after returning to training over the international break.

As for Villa and manager Unai Emery, star striker Ollie Watkins is a minor doubt following a collision with the post on international duty, while Emi Buendia, Youri Tielemans and Tyrone Mings are all unlikely to play a part due to injury.

Last season, this match finished 4-1 in Spurs’ favour, with Villa winning the return leg in May 2-0.

Interestingly, Villa had won on the two visits prior to the heavy defeat less than 12 months ago, with a 2-0 victory in January 2023 followed by a 2-1 triumph in November of that year.

Tottenham vs Aston Villa Betting Tips

Player to score or assist – Mohammed Kudus @ 2.30

Kudus has been Spurs’ best performer this season, registering one goal and four assists in the Premier League. The Ghanaian forward scored and assisted in the 2-1 win at Leeds, while he also netted the only goal in his nation’s 1-0 victory over Comoros last Sunday. So the form book suggests this is a selection worth pursuing!

Player to score or assist – Morgan Rogers @ 2.60

Rogers looked lost at the start of the season, but has recorded an assist in each of Villa’s last two Premier League matches. He also scored his team’s goal at Spurs’ stadium last term (albeit in a 4-1 loss) and after another successful international break with England, we are backing Rogers to land a decisive blow in North London.

Tottenham to win and both teams to score @ 3.79

As we are tipping a player from both sides to either score or assist, we had to look at a BTTS market. And the odds on Spurs to claim the win via this method look very good indeed, a selection which would have landed in last season’s game. In case you were wondering, both teams have scored in four of the last six meetings between Spurs and Villa across all competitions.
