Tennis: Australian Open 2026 Preview

Australian Open 2026 Preview

The first Grand Slam of the annual tennis season is fast approaching.

On Sunday, the main phase of the heralded Australian Open begins at Melbourne Park in the state of Victoria, and the tournament will conclude on February 1.

In the men’s bracket, Italian sensation Jannik Sinner is looking to keep hold of the title he won last year, as he also seeks to regain the World No1 status from rival Carlos Alcaraz in 2026.

Aryna Sabalenka is – of course – viewed as one of the favourites in the women’s bracket, although the World No1 did lose the 2025 final to American ace Madison Keys.

We cannot wait for two weeks of high-octane tennis action, and here is our full 2026 Australian Open preview, which contains all the latest outright tennis odds.

And throughout the tournament, if you require virtual assistance with your tennis wagers, NetBet’s unique Bet AI tool can help you analyse the players involved – and craft an efficient strategy.

Australian Open 2026: Men’s Preview

Sinner or Alcaraz have won every single men’s Grand Slam since Novak Djokovic’s victory at the 2023 US Open. Furthermore, the Aussie hardcourts could not suit Sinner’s style any better, with the defending champion able to properly utilise his power and baseline game.

It is highly unlikely that the top two’s run comes to an end in Melbourne, as the young stars are just a level above the chasing pack.

Veteran Djokovic has also been struggling with his fitness in the lead up to the event, pulling out of preparatory proceedings in Adelaide because he was “not quite physically ready to compete”.

Alexander Zverev, Daniil Medvedev and local boy Alex De Minaur can perhaps challenge Sinner and Alcaraz if their game is in order, but we expect another ‘Sincaraz’ finale – and that potential outcome is reflected in the outright odds.

Jack Draper and Holger Rune are two highly-ranked players who will miss this tournament through injury. World No16 Rune tore his achilles tendon in October, and sadly, we may not see him until the latter stages of the year.

Australian Open 2026: Women’s Preview

The women’s bracket is far more competitive than the men’s – on paper at least.

While No1 seed Sabalenka is widely tipped to succeed, she is only the joint pre-tournament favourite alongside reigning Wimbledon queen Iga Swiatek.

Two-time Australian Open winner Sabalenka was victorious in the previous Grand Slam (the 2025 US Open), but plenty of high-quality opponents look primed to challenge her in Melbourne.

Reigning champion Keys, Coco Gauff, rising star Amanda Anisimova and Elena Rybakina are just some of the standout names in a phenomenal field of players.

Ons Jabeur, Daniel Collins, Veronica Kudermetova, Lois Boisson and Zheng Qinwen – who finished as runner-up in 2024 – will all miss the Australian Open for different reasons.
