Arsenal vs Bayer Leverkusen: Anytime goalscorer – Viktor Gyokeres @ 1.91
Gyokeres started on the bench against Everton, but was called upon in the second half and crucially broke the deadlock. The Swedish striker flatters to deceive at times, but 16 goals in 40 appearances across all competitions is certainly not a bad return. Nine of those 16 goals came at the Emirates, hence why we are backing Gyokeres to breach Leverkusen’s defence on his return to the starting XI. The German side performed well in last week’s 1-1 draw and recorded the same scoreline vs Bayern Munich on Saturday, but we feel this second leg may just be a step too far.
Manchester City vs Real Madrid: Both teams to score – Yes @ 1.65
City have no option but to go for the jugular from the very first whistle, as Pep Guardiola’s men trail 3-0 in the tie following Fede Valverde’s stunning hat-trick at the Bernabeu. The Citizens are also on a run of two consecutive draws in the Premier League vs Nottingham Forest (2-2) and West Ham (1-1), so this really is a huge game in the context of their season. As such, City should come flying out the traps early doors, perhaps putting at least one past Thibaut Courtois in the first half at the Etihad. But Real Madrid are scoring for fun at the moment having thrashed Elche 4-1 on the weekend, and with Kylian Mbappe potentially returning to the fold, City’s run of not keeping a clean sheet should be extended to five games.
Barcelona vs Newcastle: Player to score or assist – Raphinha @ 2.02
Lamine Yamal is always the talk of the town in Barcelona. However, Raphinha is perhaps the attacker Newcastle’s defence should fear most ahead of this second leg. The Brazilian scored a hat-trick on the weekend in a 5-2 home victory over Sevilla, taking him to 17 goals in just 29 appearances this season. So even though Newcastle recorded a clean sheet in their 1-0 win at Chelsea, we just cannot see Eddie Howe’s boys keeping Raphinha quiet for the full 90 minutes in Catalonia. The clean sheet at Stamford Bridge was only the second tallied by the Magpies in the last 15 matches, and Raphinha also scored on his last Champions League appearance at Camp Nou – the 4-1 win over FC Copenhagen.
Tottenham vs Atletico Madrid: Double chance – Tottenham win OR draw @ 1.50
Tottenham’s unexpected draw vs Liverpool at Anfield has completely changed the mood surrounding the club. It feels as if the clouds have been lifted somewhat, and Igor Tudor’s men can use the renewed levels of positivity to give Atletico a real scare in North London. Even in the first leg, which finished 5-2 to the hosts, Diego Simeone’s defence showed signs of frailty – and their previous away match saw them lose 3-0 at Barcelona. In fact, Atleti have only won one of the last four on their travels, while Spurs’ previous Champions League home match saw them beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0. A Spurs shock on the cards?
