England vs Japan Preview

Recent results

England’s run of victories and clean sheets – which had reached six games – ended last Friday as Tuchel’s men could only muster a 1-1 draw with Uruguay. Fede Valverde’s injury-time penalty cancelled out an opener from the returning Ben White.

Japan claimed an impressive 1-0 win in Scotland last Saturday thanks to a strike from Junya Ito. The Samurai Blue also collected victories in the previous three friendlies vs Bolivia (3-0), Ghana (2-0) and – most impressively – Brazil (3-2).

Head-to-head record

England and Japan have only met three times in history, with the former winning twice and the other match finishing as a draw. The previous meeting in May 2010 saw the Three Lions win 2-1 at a neutral venue in Graz.

England team news

Noni Madueke picked up an injury vs Uruguay and has returned to Arsenal, along with team-mates Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice – who did not feature last Friday and reportedly are carrying ‘knocks’.

John Stones has also returned to Manchester City, but Harry Kane, Marc Guehi, Nico O’Reilly and Eliott Anderson are available for selection after being afforded a welcome rest.

Predicted England XI (4-2-3-1): Pickford, Livramento, Maguire, Guehi, O’Reilly, Anderson, Garner, Rogers, Bellingham, Gordon, Kane.

England vs Japan Odds

England vs Japan Betting Tips

Anytime goalscorer – Harry Kane @ 2.05

England’s captain is back and will be looking for more goals following another sensational season with Bayern Munich. He has struck 48 times in 40 club matches across all competitions, and on six occasions in his previous six international appearances. At slightly better than evens, this looks like a no-brainer.

Total goals – Under 2.5 @ 1.82

The Three Lions’ previous three matches saw under 2.5 goals scored. Two of Japan’s last three international friendlies also saw this selection land, so the stats suggest this is a market well worth pursuing.
