Scotland World Cup 2026 Guide

Scotland are back on the FIFA World Cup stage for the first time in 28 years, and Steve Clarke’s side secured qualification for this summer’s tournament in rather dramatic fashion.

In UEFA Group C, Scotland claimed top spot after a thrilling 4-2 victory over Denmark on the final matchday, the Tartan Army finishing two points ahead of the Scandinavians as a result.

Now it is full speed ahead to North America for the biggest event in sport, and below we have provided some handy information on Scotland ahead of their group-stage matches, as well as the latest World Cup odds.

Scotland World Cup History

This will be Scotland’s first World Cup appearance since 1998, so it really is a huge moment in the nation’s recent sporting history.

The Tartan Army were eliminated in the group stage at France ‘98, and failed to reach the knockout rounds in all other previous campaigns (1954,1958, 1974, 1978, 1982 and 1990).

Rather interestingly, Scotland’s World Cup history is intertwined with Brazil, the five-time winners who Clarke’s men will take on later this month in Group C.

Scotland and Brazil clashed four times in previous tournaments, a 0-0 draw in 1974 followed by three straight wins for the South American side in 1982 (1-4), 1990 (0-1) and 1998 (1-2).

The Tartan Army also played Morocco – another Group C opponent – in 1998, suffering a 3-0 defeat to the current champions of Africa.

Twenty-eight years later, can Clarke’s men avenge those losses in North America?

Scotland World Cup 2026 Prediction

Scotland have been drawn in a tough group, but qualification for the round of 32 can still be secured by being one of the eight best third-placed teams.

Furthermore, the Tartan Army also possess the quality to really test – and perhaps shock – both Brazil and Morocco, while a victory against Haiti should be relatively straightforward.

But the knockout stage may throw up one challenge too many, as a second or third-place finish would mean a clash vs a group winner, potentially one of the Netherlands, Germany or France.

Prediction – Round of 32 elimination
