What a year it’s been. From a winter World Cup to a treble-winning Manchester City and moments that’ll go down in the annals of football history. It was a year like no other. You rarely get a relaxing year in football and this was no different. Let’s take a look through this year’s winners and losers in the world of football<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Winner – Manchester City<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Probably best to start with Manchester City. A pretty decent year for the blue half of Manchester. Just the three. The treble. While for most sides, a trophy marks a memorable year, pocketing all three puts you into the greatest-ever section in the Hall of Fame. With a team full of GOATS, we aren\u2019t that surprised. It was all worth it to see the Jack Grealish celebration photos. You can’t blame him.<\/p>\n

Loser – Manchester United<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Watching City emulate their infamous treble must have been painful. The final bastion of hope, something that they could always lord over the blue half is finally gone. If things couldn’t get any worse, as we approached the New Year, they found themselves out of Europe completely languishing at the bottom of a group that included Bayern Munich, Copenhagen, and Galatasaray. Unlucky lads, go again in the New Year.<\/p>\n

Winner – Lionel Messi<\/strong><\/h3>\n

I\u2019ll keep this one short. 889 games, 721 goals, 344 assists, 8 Ballon d’Ors, and one World Cup. Adding another Ballon d’Or this year and finally, the only thing previously missing, a World Cup. Surely we can put the GOAT debate to bed?<\/p>\n

Loser – Graham Potter <\/strong><\/h3>\n

Poor Graham. After doing such a stellar job with Brighton, the Chelsea job seemed maybe a step too far. It seemed like an almost impossible job, but poor Graham was sent in as the sacrificial lamb. And, he was slaughtered. Although there was certainly a quality manager there, it never worked out. He\u2019s probably enjoying watching Poch struggle at the moment. But, probably for the best. His ageing process had doubled. No slick suits, just tracksuits and eye bags.<\/p>\n

Winner – The Bellingham Family<\/strong><\/h3>\n

I wonder what they feed this lot. While having one professional player in the family is incredible, two world-class prospects seems ridiculous. After a brilliant World Cup, Jude has arrived in Spain and is taking things to a different level. The Bellingham clips don’t stop. Meanwhile, his brother Jobe is running things at Sunderland. Anymore Bellingham brothers we can get our hands on?<\/p>\n

Loser – Cheltenham Town <\/strong><\/h3>\n

As of October, Cheltenham held the record for the longest run without finding the back of the net. Cheltenham Town failed to score in their first 11 games of the season, a Football League record. It was a whopping five months without a goal for the Robins, who currently sit rock bottom of League One. Not an ideal start to the campaign.<\/p>\n
