This weekend sees one of the most popular professional darts tournaments of the year take place.<\/span><\/p>\n

The UK Open, affectionately known as the \u2018FA Cup of Darts\u2019, is a competition unlike any other, and one which every player dreams of winning.<\/span><\/p>\n

Unsurprisingly, teenage sensation and World No1 Luke Littler is the defending champion – and he is the clear favourite to reign supreme once again in Minehead.<\/span><\/p>\n

Littler won his second World Championship at the very start of the year, and also triumphed at the World Masters last month.<\/span><\/p>\n

But the format of this tournament and the sheer volume of players involved makes it rather unpredictable, with highly-ranked operators often dropping out of contention far earlier than previously forecast.<\/span><\/p>\n

Where can I watch the UK Open?<\/b><\/h2>\n

The UK Open takes place from Friday, March 6 to Sunday, March 8 – and the tournament will be broadcast live on ITV4.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is the UK Open format?<\/b><\/h2>\n

The UK Open format is pretty unique, as the tournament features 160 players – making it the largest in terms of contenders on the PDC circuit.<\/span><\/p>\n

A multi-board event contested across eight separate stages, all draws are unseeded, which only adds to the darting drama.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, higher-ranked players enter the tournament at later rounds, in a similar manner to Premier League teams joining the FA Cup in the third round.<\/span><\/p>\n

Players ranked 65-96 by the PDC join the UK Open in the second round, while those in 33-64 are called upon for the third round.<\/span><\/p>\n

And the top 32 – the likes of Littler, Luke Humphries and Michael van Gerwen – enter in the fourth round, which gets underway on Friday evening.<\/span><\/p>\n

The UK Open follows a legs format, rather than sets.<\/span><\/p>\n

Rounds one, two and three are best-of-11, while rounds four, five, six and the quarter-finals are best-of-19.<\/span><\/p>\n

The semi-finals and final are best-of-21. In last year\u2019s final, Littler thrashed two-time winner James Wade 11-2!<\/span><\/p>\n
