The World Cup may be over, but football-mania has spread across the nation over the last six weeks as a result of England\u2019s performance over the tournament.<\/p>\n

The Three Lions surpassed all expectations to finish fourth in this summer\u2019s football showpiece spectacular. After all, fans would be forgiven for thinking that this wouldn\u2019t be their year after England\u2019s performance in France two years ago when they lost to Iceland. Put simply, prior to this tournament, England have been so poor that if they were your mate, you\u2019d have stopped picking up the phone years ago for being a constant let down.<\/p>\n

A let down no more, as fans are now answering England\u2019s (and Gareth Southgate\u2019s waistcoat\u2019s) calls, after their fourth-place finish saw more people chuck beer in the air than consume it over the course of the tournament.<\/p>\n

The World Cup dominated the media to such an extent that many forgot that Wimbledon was even on. Though, that\u2019s possibly more down to Andy Murray not playing and the mass-public not being inspired by two people hitting a ball back and forth.<\/p>\n

One thing that came with England\u2019s success in this tournament was the resurrection of some of our classic songs, as well as some newbies. \u2018Vindaloo\u2019 was sung in pubs across the land, while aspiring rappers tried to get a grip of John Barnes\u2019 part in \u2018World\u2019s in Motion\u2019, as well as a rendition of Atomic Kitten\u2019s \u2018Whole Again\u2019, only with the lyrics changed to celebrate Southgate.<\/p>\n

However, nothing was more popular than The Lightning Seeds, Baddiel and Skinner\u2019s \u2018Three Lions\u2019 from 1996, alternatively known as \u2018It\u2019s Coming Home\u2019. The song was originally released to commemorate England host the 1996 European Championships and, after years of disappointment (more than the original release stated), it\u2019s now a rallying cry ahead of major football tournaments. It usually lasts for about a week, until England\u2019s elimination from a tournament is sealed, but this year it felt like an eternity.<\/p>\n
