Top 10 players who never saw red

There’s a small list of players who’ve never been sent off in their careers, but who makes it?

We’ve picked out the top ten players who’ve never been issued with a red card.

Raul

Teams played for:            Real Madrid, Schalke, al-Sadd, New York Cosmos, Spain

In his seventeen senior campaigns, which included 932 club games, two Champions League triumphs and six Spanish titles, Raul never managed to pick up a red card.

Gary Lineker

Teams played for:            Leicester, Everton, Barcelona, Tottenham, Nagoya Grampus Eight, England

Gary Lineker went one step further then never seeing a red card. In fact, he was never even awarded a yellow! He scored a total of 281 goals in 567 matches.

Andres Iniesta

Teams played for:            Barcelona, Spain

Iniesta has made over 750 appearances for the finest club and international side of his generation without receiving a red card.

Karim Benzema

Teams played for:            Lyon, Real Madrid, France

Benzema has had plenty of off-field problems, but he’s been very well behaved on it. He’s played 649 matches without being sent off.

Joao Moutinho

Teams played for:            Porto, Sporting Lisbon, Monaco, Portugal

The 30-year old has always had an impressive disciplinary record. He’s now made it 663 professional games without seeing red.

Michel Platini

Teams played for:            Nancy, Saint-Etienne, Juventus, France

Platini played 655 games for both club and country without seeing red. He thinks that the modern-day player is less likely to get a red than those that played in his era.

Gaetano Scirea

Teams played for:            Atalanta, Juventus, Italy

Scirea was one of the most elegant players both on and off the field. The 1982 World Cup winner never saw red in his 16 professional seasons.

Damien Duff

Teams played for:            Blackburn, Chelsea, Newcastle, Fulham, Melbourne City, Shamrock Rovers, Republic of Ireland

Although injuries caught up with him in the latter stages of his career, Duff still never saw red, despite making over 700 appearances over the course of 19 years.

Aaron Hughes

Teams played for:            Newcastle, Aston Villa, Fulham, QPR, Brighton, Melbourne City, Kerala Blasters, Hearts, Northern Ireland

Hughes still plays and has amassed over 450 Premier League appearances and 103 caps for Northern Ireland without being sent off.

Marco Bode

Teams played for:            Werder Bremen, Germany

The now-chairman of Werder Bremen spent his entire playing career at the same club without picking up a red. In his 529 matches, he was booked just 13 times.
