Premier League Betting Preview – Match Week 16

Things are heating up as we approach the half-way point of the campaign. We’ve looked ahead to match-day 16 and picked out some of the best Premier League bets available on NetBet Sport’s football odds page.

Brentford to beat Watford – 11/10

Aside from a 4-1 win over Man United, Watford are on an abysmal run of form. It’s worth mentioning the calibre of opposition in many of these games, but the Hornets have lost seven of their last nine Premier League games. Although they have looked promising going forward, they are leaking goals at the back and have conceded 10 in four games. They will face a Brentford side that have won just once in eight attempts, but not through lack of trying. They have narrowly lost games against Leicester, Chelsea and Norwich in which they had plenty of opportunities, and were denied three points by a stoppage time equaliser in their last outing. Ivan Toney will be sorely missed in this one, but the Bees have put together some strong performances, and it’s only a matter of time before these turn into results.

Man City to beat Wolves – 4/25

Wolves’ goalscoring woes continued last time out as they failed to find the net for the third consecutive match. They have been strong at the back and boast the fourth best defensive record in the league, but only bottom of the table Norwich have scored fewer. This is not ideal for Bruno Lage’s side who will almost certainly concede against a City side firing on all cylinders. Pep’s front-runners also share the joint best defensive record, so it won’t be an easy afternoon for Wolves’ out of form strikers. After rising to the summit of the table last weekend, City will be reluctant to let that slip, and we can’t see any outcome other than a home win at the Etihad.

Arsenal to beat Southampton – 20/33

Before tasting defeat in their last couple of games, Mikel Arteta’s side looked to be on the rise. Defeats to a United side in transition and a struggling Everton team would have hurt the Gunners, but they will be confident in getting back to winning ways at the Emirates. They have fared better on home soil this season and have won seven of their last eight home games in all competitions. They will host a Southampton side that can’t quite seem to turn performances into wins this season. We think they will probably have too much quality to be in any real danger of relegation, but need to find goals from somewhere to make sure of it.

Liverpool to beat Aston Villa – 2/9

Steven Gerrard will return to his former club this weekend and will be desperate to take three points back to the Midlands. He has impressed in his short tenure with the club thus far, leading Villa to three wins in four games. A trip to Anfield poses a difficult challenge for Villa, with Jurgen Klopp’s side not having lost at the fortress in 16 games. With title rivals City in such fine form, Liverpool can’t afford to drop any points. With Mo Salah currently looking like the best player in the world, it’s going to be a long afternoon for Villa’s back-line.

Chelsea to beat Leeds – 20/67

Thomas Tuchel would have been seething after his side gave up two leads in Chelsea’s 3-2 loss against West Ham. The Blues conceded as many goals in their last outing as they had in the previous seven games. They will be looking to bounce back as they welcome an inconsistent Leeds side to Stamford Bridge. Marcelo Bielsa’s side have drawn three of their last five and look to be another team that are too good to get relegated, but not quite good enough to challenge towards the top. The visitors will be confident that Raphinha can cause problems, but Chelsea are inevitable down the flanks.

Man United to beat Norwich – 10/23

It’s too early to say for certain, but there were glimpses of Ralf Rangnick’s famed counter-pressing style in United’s 1-0 win over Crystal Palace. The performance was as dominant as we have in recent months from the Red Devils, who will be looking to build on the performance with a win over rock bottom Norwich. The appointment of Dean Smith does seem to have had an uplifting effect on the spirt and performances of the Canaries, but gulf in quality between these sides is obvious. With 31 goals conceded already this season, Norwich will have to hope United aren’t at the races if they are to claim any points at Carrow Road.

West Ham to beat Burnley – 20/21

Just when you think West Ham are going to be sucked back to reality, they pop up with another incredibly impressive performance. David Moyes’ side were good value for their 3-2 win over Chelsea, a result which sees them occupy the fourth Champions League spot. The high-flying Hammers will be favourites going into this tie against a Burnley side that could be in trouble for the first time in a few seasons. Sean Dyche’s bright spark this season, new signing Maxwel Cornet, was forced off with an injury in Burnley’s 1-0 defeat to Newcastle. The potential absence of the Ivorian in this fixture is a huge blow for the home side, who are looking to end a run of just one win from 14 league games. The Irons are set to continue their fast start to the season.

Leicester to beat Newcastle – 20/33

Newcastle managed to pick up their first win of the season last time out, but Burnley didn’t put up too much resistance, it must be said. Leicester aren’t exactly in the greatest form either, and prioritising European football has resulted in them falling into the bottom half of the league. We back the Foxes to turn things around in this one. Jamie Vardy is still the league’s second top goalscorer, and James Maddison has performed well since being reintroduced to the starting 11. The injury to midfield engine Youri Tielemans has had an obvious negative impact, but Brendan Rogers’ side are dynamic going forward and shouldn’t have too many problems with Eddie Howe’s Newcastle.

Crystal Palace to draw with Everton – 2/1

Following a strong run of form, things have looked fairly bleak for Patrick Vieira in recent outings. Three consecutive defeats has seen them slip to 14th place, just six points clear of the relegation zone. Yet to settle on his strongest 11, Palace have chopped and changed their midfield and attack, to little effect. Fans won’t be worrying yet. After all, the Eagles had put together a seven match unbeaten run prior to the last three games. But Vieira will be hoping to get back to winning ways sooner rather than later. Everton put together one of their best performances of the season last time out to pick up a well-deserved win over Arsenal, their first in nine attempts. Richarlison will be full of confidence after putting the ball in the net three times, only to have two goals ruled out by VAR. It looks a fairly even affair on paper and we can’t separate the two.
