Wimbledon 2022

Monday 27th June – Sunday 10th July

All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, London

Wimbledon 2022 Tournament Preview

Novak Djokovic has been simply insurmountable at Wimbledon in recent years, winning three consecutive titles and five of the last seven. The six-time champion is a huge favourite going into the tournament as he looks to tie Pete Sampras as the second most decorated player in Wimbledon open-era history, a victory which would see him move within one title of Roger Federer.

It won’t be plain sailing for the Serb given Rafael Nadal’s fine form. The Spaniard knocked Djokovic out of the French Open on the way to his second Major win of the year. Nadal’s Wimbledon visits have not been filled with success in recent times, and he has not picked up a win in SW19 in over a decade. He will be among those following Djokovic in the odds, although Matteo Berrettini is viewed by many as the most likely to topple the Serb’s dominance. The Italian lost out in a fiercely contested battle at last year’s tournament, and following his win at the Queen’s Club Championships, he’ll fancy his chances of upsetting the odds.

It is no surprise to see Iga Świątek leading the Women’s tournament odds following her dominant win at the French Open. After reigning Wimbledon champion Ashleigh Barty’s shock retirement, many feel it has left the world number one with a clear run at claiming her first win at the iconic event. However, there’s no doubt it will be hard-fought victory if she goes all the way given the competition around her.

Cori Gauff will be out to avenge her French Open final defeat against Świątek, with the 18-year-old still searching for her first Grand Slam win. She will be seen as the closest competition to the Pole, although Simona Halep and Serena Williams cannot be counted out either. The latter is a seven-time Wimbledon champion and is the most acclaimed open-era player in women’s tennis history. It’s gearing up to be yet another cracking couple of weeks in London.

Wimbledon 2022 Tournament Odds

The men’s tournament odds are currently led by 4/5 favourite Djokovic, followed by 6/1 Berrettini, 13/2 Nadal and 8/1 Carlos Alcaraz Garfia. At longer odds are 2016 champion Andy Murray at 25/1 and world number five Casper Ruud at 80/1.

Świątek is leading the ladies’ odds at 6/4, followed by Gauff at 10/1, Ons Jabeur at 12/1 and Halep at 14/1. World number seven Karolina Pliskova at 20/1 is an interesting look for a longer odds bet.

Wimbledon 2022 Betting Tips

Wimbledon winner: Matteo Berrettini – 6/1

It’s difficult to look beyond Djokovic, but there isn’t much value in his odds. Berrettini looks the next best thing. The Italian is still on the hunt for his first Grand Slam, but has been going from strength to strength in recent years. He reached two Majors quarter-finals last year and lost out in a close final to Djokovic at Wimbledon. Berrettini looked good in the 2022 Australian Open where he lost in the semi-final, and he has won both the Stuttgart Open and Queen’s Club Championships in the last month. He is fine form and looks primed to challenge the champ.

Wimbledon winner: Cori Gauff – 10/1

Once again, there isn’t too much value in the favourite, but 10/1 is massive odds for a talented youngster that is set to win her first Grand Slam sooner rather than later. She has impressed consistently this year, reaching the latter stages of various competitions, including a final defeat in the French Open and a recent semi-final defeat against the world number three in Berlin. Gauff is getting better and better with age, and it won’t be too long before she finds herself lifting a Major trophy.
