Italy vs England Football Preview

Just over a year has passed since these two nations battled it out to be crowned champions of Europe, but things couldn’t look more different. Following their Euro 2020 triumph, Italy have failed to qualify for the World Cup and have won just four of their 14 matches in all competitions.

England managed to secure a place at Qatar unscathed, but they are without a win in four games and were on the end of an embarrassing 4-0 defeat to Hungary on home soil last time out. It’s safe to say both nations appear a shadow of the teams that locked horns at Wembley last summer, and it’s not easy to see who will come out on top in Milan this Friday.

For all of Italy’s recent struggles, they boast an incredible record against England. In 15 meetings dating back to 1976, Italy have lost just twice to England, emerging victorious on nine occasions. They will no doubt feel like they have the Three Lions’ number.

Anything other than a win for both sides will likely rule out their chances of progressing to the latter stages of the Nations League. Gareth Southgate will be less worried about this competition and more so on dragging his team out of a poor patch of form. With the World Cup fast approaching, there isn’t much time to build momentum.

Italy vs England Football Odds

In spite of their form, England will go into the tie as very slight favourites at 6/4, whilst the hosts are priced at 9/5. A draw is currently at 21/10, and both teams to score can be backed at 5/6.

Italy vs England Betting Tips

*Odds correct at the time of publication and are subject to change.

NetBet Boost: Draw HT / Draw FT – 4/1

The last four meetings between these nations have finished in a draw after 90 minutes. There isn’t a lot separating them on paper, and neither will have enough confidence to go on and win the game.

NetBet Boost: Harry Kane to score first – 5/1

If anyone is going to break the deadlock, Kane at 5/1 is the man to back. England’s second top goalscorer of all time has started the domestic campaign in fine form. When you also factor in his success rate from the penalty spot, this looks as strong a bet as any.

Bet Maker: Harry Kane anytime goalscorer, Under 1.5 first half goals, Under 3.5 total goals – 17/4

There has not been more than three goals in a game between these two countries since 1976. We can see it being a typically cagey affair from the off, and any decisive goals will likely come in the second half.
