Man City vs Man United Football Preview

If it weren’t for Arsenal’s incredible start to the campaign, we’d be talking about the undefeated Man City and how they are strolling towards another Premier League title. Since the Community Shield loss, they have won seven of their nine outings, including impressive victories over Sevilla and Dortmund in the Champions League.

Pep Guardiola’s side host United this weekend having lost three of their last four meetings with the Reds at the Etihad. In fact, they have somewhat surprisingly won just twice in their last eight home games against their neighbours. City will be strong favourites ahead of Sunday’s clash, but will face a tricky task in dispatching of a United team full of momentum.

Erik ten Hag’s side have been much improved since back-to-back defeats to open their campaign. Wins over Liverpool and Arsenal were particularly impressive and may highlight exactly how they plan to cause City problems. The visitors have found most success in the transition for a number of years, with pace on the counter an ideal way to approach the Manchester derby.

We saw City struggle and concede three when Newcastle attacked them directly and physically – that game at St. James’ Park is seemingly a blueprint for how United can find success in this match. But for all of their perceived vulnerability on the break, City have a way of beating teams into submission via endless passages of possession. The United back four might have improved on the frail defence of last season, but they are yet to face a combination of Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland.

Man City vs Man United Football Odds

City are strong 10/31 favourites heading into the derby, whilst United are 25/4 underdogs and a draw is priced at 19/4. Both teams to score can be backed at 20/29, with Haaland (19/10) the obvious favourite to open the scoring.

Man City vs Man United Betting Tips

*Odds correct at the time of publication and subject to change.

Man City win and both teams to score – 13/10

This seems like the most likely outcome on Sunday. United will play to their strengths and play on the counter, but we don’t think they have enough to compete with City over 90 minutes.

Haaland first goalscorer – 19/10

Why stray away from the inevitable? Haaland has opened the scoring in four of City’s games in all competitions, and also broke the deadlock in Norway’s 2-1 defeat to Slovenia. A fast start for the hosts will undoubtedly lead to chances for the big man.

Bet Maker: Draw, Over 2.5 goals, Marcus Rashford anytime goalscorer – 20/1

United have proven they can compete with the best this season, and if they can manage the same intensity we have seen from them in the last month, they have every chance of snatching points. Rashford is tailor-made to suit a counter-attacking side and he will be United’s outlet at the Etihad.
