Argentina vs Saudi Arabia

This has the potential to be the most one-sided game you see at the World Cup. Argentina – one of the favourites to lift the trophy – open their campaign against the second lowest ranked nation, Saudi Arabia. There will be an abundance of world class talent on show for Argentina, namely Lionel Messi, who will be hoping to lead his country to World Cup glory for the first time since 1986.

There won’t be many people giving Saudi Arabia much of a chance in this one. They will work incredibly hard and look to contain Argentina for as long as possible, but it’s only a matter of time before the deadlock is broken. Once it is, a hatful of goals could follow.

Argentina win – 1.16

Score prediction: 4-0

Denmark vs Tunisia

2004 African Cup of Nations champions Tunisia are one of their continent’s more accomplished nations. They head to Qatar ranked 30th in the world having picked up wins over the likes of Chile and Japan in 2022. However, they face an incredibly difficult task in their opening match as they prepare to face Euro 2020 semi-finalists Denmark.

The Danes have an exciting squad featuring talents such as Andreas Skov Olsen and Mikel Damsgaard, interspersed with experienced, older heads like Christian Eriksen. They are a very well-rounded side and have proven their ability to hang with the big boys in previous major tournaments. They will be expected to qualify from Group D, but could they pip France to top spot?

Denmark win – 1.42

Score prediction: 2-0

Mexico vs Poland

These two will likely be the nations battling for second place in a group consisting of Argentina and Saudi Arabia. This game could be crucial in deciding who progresses. There isn’t much to choose between the two, but Poland look to have the necessary star power to get over the line. Robert Lewandowski only needs once chance to put the ball in the back of the net, a quality which could be pivotal in a tight game.

Mexico have some standout players of their own, but we’re not sure they have the firepower to see them into the knockout stages.

Poland win – 2.72

Score prediction: 1-2

France vs Australia

France’s recent form has been nothing short of dreadful – Les Bleus have won just once in their last six matches. They are also hampered by injuries to key players such as Paul Pogba, Presnel Kimpembe and N’Golo Kante. With all that being said, they’re squad is still arguably the best in the tournament.

An attack featuring Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema and the world’s best young player Kylian Mbappe is quite frankly terrifying. No disrespect to Australia, but they don’t have much hope here. There is no tougher game to kick off your World Cup than the reigning champions.

France win – 1.23

Score prediction: 3-0
