Formula 1: British Grand Prix Preview

British Grand Prix

The Formula 1 is set to speed through England this weekend, as Silverstone prepares once more for high adrenaline and sweltering speeds. Silverstone is rarely a dull affair. As one of the top races on the F1 calendar, it’s going to be no different this year, with big stories, big names, and fast racing.

Silverstone’s infamous corners and fast straights give it real speed; it’s the third-longest circuit on the race calendar. It always proves an enthralling affair.

British Grand Prix Preview

Quite rightly, British racing great Lewis Hamilton is looking to make history this weekend as the only driver to win a single race nine times in his career. The seven-time world champion is tied with the great Michael Schumacher for the most world championships, and as he begins to enter the twilight of his career, he is hungry to go out on top.

However, Mercedes have had a lot of car trouble this year. It’s not been vintage stuff from a team that’s normally top of the table. Team principal Toto Wolff stated:

“We are bringing a larger (set of upgrades) to Silverstone. And then we should have another one before the shutdown. The learnings (of the car) have accelerated a lot since we changed some of the conceptual architecture.”

And when asked what race his team could win this season, Wolff responded: “Silverstone.”

But that certainly won’t be an easy feat with Max Verstappen and the Red Bull team around. The incredible driver has won seven of the first nine races this year and sits well clear at the top of the table looking to make it eight and pull even further away from the chasing pack.

Hamilton is going to need to do some serious racing this weekend if he hopes to chase down Verstappen. But it’s meant to be a drizzly weekend here in the UK, and racing in the wet suits Hamilton. Could we see a classic here at Silverstone this weekend?

Silverstone Betting Odds

Max Verstappen is rightly favourite to make it eight from the first ten. Could this weekend be another big win for the flying Dutchman? He’s at 1.33 to take the chequered flag, with the in-form Sergio Perez second-best at 8.00. Hamilton sits third in the odds at 13.00 to win on home soil. Outsiders like Charles Leclerc, George Russel and Carlos Sainz will be hoping to get on that podium this weekend as well, so they are definitely worth taking a look at with longer odds.

British Grand Prix Betting Tips

Hamilton to win @ 13.00

It’s hard to look past Max Verstappen at 1.33 to take another victory, but if there was ever a place to do it for Hamilton, it would be at home on the Silverstone Circuit. It’s a massive opportunity to claw some points back, especially in the rain.

Russell Top 3 finish @ 4.33

Fellow Mercedes and British racer George Russell has said he dreams of winning here at Silverstone. While he’s unlikely to take the top spot here, he could well drive himself to a podium finish.

Grid Position of winner, 3rd or 4th place @ 6.00

We’ve seen so much happen on that first corner here at Silverstone, and with such a long circuit, pole position could be a precarious place to be. Could someone come from 3rd or 4th and upset the pole driver?
