Inter Milan vs Barcelona Preview

The first leg in Barcelona really was a classic from start to finish. Inter flew into a first-half 2-0 lead, before the hosts pegged it back to 2-2.

Simone Inzaghi’s side regained the advantage in the second period, only for a Yann Sommer own goal to leave us level at 3-3.

Both of these sides claimed crucial wins over inferior opposition on the weekend, with Inter beating Verona 1-0 and Barca claiming a 2-1 victory at Valladolid.

Those results only serve to make this second leg even harder to predict, although injuries may very well play a key role – despite the fact each team was able to rest important players in the league.

Barca will be without starting full-backs Jules Kounde and Alejandro Bale, while Robert Lewandowski is unlikely to start as he only just returned from a muscle issue.

Inter skipper Lautaro Martinez is expected to be fit enough to start, though there are lingering doubts over the availability of Benjamin Pavard.

But Lamine Yamal is ready and raring to go, with the eyes of the world set to be firmly fixed on the youngster once again after his dazzling first-leg display, in which he scored a brilliant goal.

The tactics Inter utilise to try and stop the teenage sensation could make for some of the most fascinating scenes witnessed in the Champions League this season.

Inter Milan vs Barcelona Odds

*All odds are subject to change

Despite injuries in defence and Hansi Flick’s insistence on high-energy football, Barca are the favourites here at 2.47. An Inter win in 90 minutes is priced at 2.69, while the draw – which would take us to extra-time and possibly penalties – is 3.66.

Inter Milan vs Barcelona Betting Tips

Raphinha to have over 1.5 shots on target @ 2.38

All the talk in the build up has been about how Inter can stop Yamal, but Raphinha has arguably been Barca’s star performer in this season’s Champions League. And with perhaps less focus on him, the Brazilian can look to add to his 12 goals by testing Sommer’s glove work.

Player to score or assist – Hakan Calhanoglu @ 2.75

A slightly rogue shout given the attacking talent on show, but Calhanoglu is a player who nearly always turns up in big games. The Turkish midfielder has 10 goals and six assists in all competitions this season and his set-piece prowess makes him an attacking threat in any match.

Over 3.5 goals in the match @ 2.17

The first leg was a bona-fide thriller – and we expect much of the same in Milan. Barcelona’s almost reckless high line and undeniable attacking threat mean virtually every game they play is loaded with entertainment. Inter’s pragmatic powers have waned in recent times too with only one clean sheet in the last six, so Inzaghi may view attack as the best form of defence.
