Euro 2022 – England vs Norway Preview and Betting Tips

England kicked off their Euro 2022 campaign with a 1-0 win in front of a record-breaking 68,000 fans at Old Trafford. It was Beth Mead that snatched the headlines after scoring the only goal of the match in a dominant, if somewhat unspectacular performance.

The Lionesses’ next fixture will be their toughest of the group stage as they prepare to take on former European and World Cup champions Norway at the Amex Stadium. Here at NetBet, we’ve previewed the upcoming clash and provided our best betting tips from the football odds page.

England vs Norway Football Preview

Sarina Wiegman’s side could, and probably should have killed the game off earlier against Austria. Despite a solid first outing in the tournament, a similar performance lacking cutting-edge will cost them in their next game. Norway will likely be their closest competition for Group A’s top spot, but a win on Monday night would all but seal their status as group winners.

Norway impressed in the qualifiers, despite a clear quality discrepancy. They won all six games, scoring 34 goals and conceding just once in the process. When you factor in the return of 2018 Ballon d’Or winner Ada Hegerberg, they provide a genuine threat to what many considered an uncontested route to the knockouts for the hosts.

Whilst the challenge awaiting Leah Williamson’s Lionesses at the Amex will be a tricky one to navigate, you simply cannot overlook England’s own star quality. They may have lacked clinical instinct in the final third against Austria, but they found themselves there almost at will. The wingers both demonstrated their dazzling pace and Fran Kirby showed glimpses of her capability of unlocking defences from the 10.

What sets the hosts apart from most other nations at the tournament is their incredible depth. They have gamechangers on the bench that can be utilised across the pitch, something which could be the difference as the competition heats up. Undoubtedly Norway will be up to the challenge, but it’s tough to look past the free-flowing Lionesses.

England vs Norway Football Odds

England will be favourites in Brighton at 4/7 and will be fully expected to collect another three points. However, Norway are priced well at 19/5, with a draw at 14/5 also tempting.

HT/FT: Tie/England – 16/5

This has the potential to be a somewhat cagey affair. Given England tend to do most of their best work in the second half of games, it may take them a while to break the deadlock. We do expect them to come out on top eventually, aided by their strong bench.

England win – 4/7

Norway might have beaten England in two of their last three meetings, but both were friendlies. When the pressure is really on, the Lionesses usually turn things up. The last two meetings between these nations in major tournaments have both gone the way of the hosts.
