St Andrews, Fife

The Open Championship Tournament Preview

Collin Morikawa will begin his title defence at 10am on Thursday, as he looks to become one of the few elite players that has won the prestigious tournament in consecutive years. The American will have to fend off an incredibly strong field, and given he’s not exactly been in his best form, there will be plenty expecting him to fall short this year.

Fan favourite Rory McIlroy is currently leading the odds to claim a second Open Championship victory, and the Northern Irishman has played some exceptional golf when the pressure has been on this year. McIlroy has finished in the top 10 in every Major in 2022, and he’ll be quietly confident in his chances heading into the tournament.

World number one Scottie Scheffler is another player fancied by many to perform in Scotland. Scheffler has had a remarkable couple of years, highlighted by his performance on the big stages. Out of the last seven Majors, the 26-year-old has finished in the top 10 in five, including a phenomenal win at the Masters earlier this year.

When you place a £10 outright or each way bet on a player to win The Open Championship with NetBet, you will receive a £1 Free Bet for every shot they go under par in round one! For example: if you bet £10 on McIlroy to win and he shoots -5 on Thursday, you will receive five £1 Free Bets.

The Open Championship Tournament Odds

McIlroy is currently leading the odds as favourite at 9/1, whilst reigning champion Morikawa is at a huge 30/1! Xander Schauffele is amongst the favourites at 12/1, with Scheffler making up the top three at 14/1.

The Open Championship Tournament Betting Tips

*Odds correct at the time of publication and subject to change.

Top English: Matt Fitzpatrick – 5/2

There has been some strong English performers as of late, but Fitzpatrick has been the pick of the bunch. He has been steadily building in 2022, moving from a T14 finish at the Masters to a T5 finish at the PGA Championship, culminating in a first Major win at the US Open. We’re backing the 27-year-old to be amongst the front-runners in Scotland.

Rory McIlroy to win – 9/1

Sometimes it’s worth betting on the favourite. It may have been a while since his last Major win, but he is never too far from the front. This year, he has made strides back towards playing his best golf, and we wouldn’t put it past him to claim the trophy once more.

Scottie Scheffler E/W – 14/1

NetBet are paying seven places, and Scheffler is another man that is never too far from the top. He’s had a sensational year, and it wouldn’t be too much of a surprise to see him claiming yet another victory.
